A&T Welcomes Fighting Camels to Moore Gym

Aggies Overview: N.C. A&T went 2-2 at the Jacksonville State Invitational defeating Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State in straight sets last weekend. The Aggies connected on a season-best 12 service aces against Alcorn State which was their second double-figure ace effort of the season after collecting 10 against Alabama A&M on Aug. 25. In their win over MVSU, the Aggies were aided by a season-high .400 hitting percentage. It was the highest hitting percentage since posting a .442 hitting percentage against North Carolina Central on Oct. 25, 2013.
Campbell Overview: Campbell won five straight matches to open their season, but are 1-4 since including losses to New Orleans, Oregon State and North Texas at the North Texas Challenge. The Fighting Camels are averaging 12.9 kills, 1.3 aces, 15.5 digs and 2.1 blocks per set, hitting .206 as a team. Three players are averaging better than two kills per set led by Allena Heath’s team-high 4.03. Jessica Stocking (2.86) and Madison Linxwiler (2.21) are also threats offensively while Summer Schuitema averages 9.58 assists per set. Linxwiler averages 1.09 blocks per set and Schuitema leads the defense averaging 3.18 digs per set.
Rookie Setter Shines: Freshman Edie Brewer led the Aggies throughout the Jacksonville State Invitational and was named to the all-tournament team for the second week in a row. Brewer averaged 6.83 assists per set on 82 total assists including a season-high 33 against Mississippi Valley State. Brewer is ranked 15th nationally in total services aces (19) and 34th in aces per set (0.50).
Ranking the Aggies: N.C. A&T leads the MEAC in opponent hitting percentage (.156) and rank second in both service aces averaging 1.73 per set and team service aces (45). Individually, senior Jasmine Lindor is 91st in total blocks (38) and 211th in blocks per set (1.15). Senior Alyssa Pitt is eighth in the conference in hitting percentage (.273) and Lindor ranks fourth (.298).
N.C. A&T has tallied 75 team blocks to 51 by their opponents. The Aggies have been out-blocked in only one match this season. Last weekend at the Jacksonville State Invitational,
- Alyssa Pitt led the Aggies with 26 kills, hitting .279 over 12 sets. She recorded a career-high six service aces against Alcorn State.
- Jasmine Lindor had eight blocks in 12 sets with four coming against Jacksonville State in their opening match.
- Christa Wilson posted a career-high .647 hitting percentage recording 12 kills and only one attack error in 17 attempts against Mississippi Valley State.
- Samara Brown finished with a team-high seven kills in the Aggies loss to JSU.
Up Next: A week after facing the Fighting Camels the Aggies will head to Greenville, N.C. to face the East Carolina Pirates 7 p.m., Saturday at Minges Coliseum. After playing three matches in the North-South Challenge, Sept. 22-23, the Aggies will open conference play at N.C. Central on Sept. 28 at 6 p.m.
