SAVANNAH, Ga. (October 30, 2017)  – Junior Bo Young Park leads the 2017 SSU Tiger Fall Invitational hosted by Savannah State at the par 72, 5,484-yard golf course at Crosswinds Golf Club.

Park shot a 1-over par 73 over 18 holes on Monday to help the North Carolina A&T women’s golf team lead the tournament after the first day with a score of 307. The three teams following the Aggies are Savannah State (326), Hampton (347) and Maryland Eastern Shore (386).

Park’s performance was complemented by each of her teammates finishing in the top-10. The score the Aggies threw out on the first day was a solid 10-over par by sophomore Jocelyn Andrews. Freshman Madison Harriman had a breakout performance in the first round by shooting a 4-over 76 as she sits in a tie for third place. Seniors Jill Harvison and Sofia Alvarez rounded out the scoring for the Aggies.

After a slow start to the 2017-18 season, Harvison’s play on Monday was encouraging for an Aggies team looking to claim its second tournament victory of the season. Harvison shot a 6-over 78 for her second round in the 70’s this season. Harvison had the lowest average score for the Aggies last season, therefore, her improved play should be a plus for the Aggies on Tuesday. Also, encouraging for the Aggies was that Alvarez, the 2017-18 leader in average scores, shot an 8-over 80. The way Alvarez has trended this season, that score is likely to improve on Tuesday.

Before the SSU Tiger Fall Invitational, five of the seven rounds Alvarez has played in this season were shot in the 70’s.

“It was one of the lowest rounds the women have ever shot,” said N.C. A&T coach Richard Watkins. “I think it is going to end up being a good tournament for us, and I’m looking forward to our round tomorrow and the women continuing their solid play.”

The Aggies were consistent throughout the first round. Park leads the tournament with 14 pars followed in order by Harriman’s and Alvarez’s 12 and Andrews’ 11. Harvison is tied for the tournament lead in birdies with three. Park birdied two holes and Harriman had one.

N.C. A&T returns to action at Crosswinds Golf Club Tuesday morning at 8.
