GREENSBORO (November 2, 2017) – The 18th-ranked North Carolina A&T bowling team heads to Sam Houston State University on Friday to compete in the SHSU Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas. The competition will be difficult because every NCAA champion and runner-up since 2013 is in the event. The Aggies got off to a great start last weekend winning their first three matchups in Bakers play but would go on to only secure one more victory during the tournament. That one victory came on Saturday in team individual play as they defeated North Central College 865-676. North Carolina A&T (4-8) looks to improve after finishing 14th at the McKendree Brunswick Bearcat Invitational.

Stepping Up
Senior Brianna Boze led the team with a career-high 256 game and came away with a 196.4 five-game average. Freshman Ana Olaya also stepped up rolling 193.8 five-game average and a high game of 214.  Boze (20) and Olaya (25) were the only two Aggies to break into the top-25 individual standings.

Coach’s Corner
Bowling head coach Kim Terrell-Kearney knew when setting this year’s schedule that the first two tournaments would be comprised of strong competitors. She wanted to test the mental aspect and abilities of the team. Terrell-Kearney is still trying to get a feel of who is going to be the anchor bowler this season which she says comes down to who is more comfortable under pressure and whose balls are reacting more consistently.

“With the first tournament behind us, we knew what we needed to focus on this week and we were able to dig in and work on it;” said Terrell-Kearney. “I strongly believe it will make a difference this weekend, and I have strong expectations to finish a lot higher this week.”

Quick Note
This event will consist of two other MEAC schools in the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll in No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore and No. 12 Delaware State. Even though the Aggies did not face MDES in the Brunswick Bearcat open, there is still a chance in facing the Hawks and the Hornets over the weekend.

Venue
The Emerald Bowl is located on the southwest side of downtown Houston and it is no stranger to big events. It was home to the first NCAA women's bowling championship in 2004 where Nebraska defeated Central Missouri. Both of those teams will compete this weekend at Emerald Bowl.

Opponents
Tournament host SHSU came into the season ranked fifth in the NTCA poll. Other ranked teams in attendance include (1) McKendree, (2) Nebraska, (3) Arkansas State, (4) Vanderbilt, (6) Stephen F. Austin and (10) Central Missouri.
