

Head men’s and women’s tennis coach William Crutchfield announced in the fall of 2017 that Jeffrey Campbell would serve as his assistant coach for both sports.
Prior to his stint at N.C. A&T, Campbell coached at Greensboro Day School. Under Campbell’s leadership, the GDS boys and girls varsity teams won over 18 PAIS conference championships. Campbell was named Coach of the Year 16 times in the conference and his players have gone on to play tennis at universities across the country, many of them receiving scholarships.
Before GDS, Campbell’s coaching experience included a stint at The King School, a private school in Stamford, Conn., where he served as boys and girls varsity tennis coach. His other coaching experiences include coaching varsity tennis at White Plains High School in New York. He led the school to its first winning season in years. He has also coached at Kew-Forest High School, a private school in Queens, New York. He coached varsity and junior varsity at the school.
Campbell began his coaching career in California at Flintridge Prep School where he led the boys and girls varsity teams. In addition to his work in schools, Campbell spent many years in the tennis industry. He was the Junior Program coordinator and the assistant head pro at the Middlesex Tennis and Swim Club in Connecticut, a staff pro at the Sound Shore Tennis Club in Port Chester, New York

In addition to a stellar coaching and teaching career, Campbell enjoyed an outstanding playing career. Some of his career highlights as a player include being ranked in North Carolina (USTA Southeast), California (USTA Southwest) and New York (Eastern) divisions of the United States Tennis Association. His many and varied rankings have been as high as high as No. 2 in singles, No. 1 in mixed doubles and No. 9 in doubles. He has also held a national ranking as high as No. 3 in the American Tennis Association (ATA). He has been the runner-up of the Orange County (Calif.) Master’s Championships, winner of the Racquet Club of Irvine (Calif.) Club Championship and the Winner of the Beverly Hills Country Club (Calif.). Recently, Coach Campbell was the winner of the Guilford Challenge Tennis Tournament as well as the North Carolina United States Tennis Association Clay Court Championships.
He has been a member of several elite tennis clubs such as Sunny Hills Racquet Club (Calif.), the Racquet Club of Irvine (Calif.), the Beverly Hills Racquet Club (Calif.) and the Palisades Tennis Club (Calif.). In addition to his work in the tennis industry, Campbell had a 15-year career as an educator working in private schools in California, New York, Connecticut and North Carolina. He also holds a B.A., in English and an M. Ed. in education.
