NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 4, 2018) – The North Carolina A&T softball completed its weekend in Nashville, Tenn., with a 9-0 loss to the Northern Iowa Panthers Sunday on the final day of the Bruin Classic hosted by Belmont University at E.S. Rose Park.

The Aggies were two-hit on Sunday by Panthers starter Brooke Craig over complete-game seven inning outing. Junior first baseman Mohagoney Headen and sophomore shortstop Stephanie Williams picked up the hits for the Aggies (2-13).

Zadaisha Waddell got the start for the Aggies, and she did her best to keep things close early. The Panthers (12-8) scored on an RBI sacrifice fly in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Waddell nearly pitched her way out a bases-loaded jam in the second inning.

After an error and a base hit allowed the first two Panthers to reach in the second, an infield hit by Emma Valainis loaded the bases with no outs. Olivia Brooks then hit into a force play allowing the Aggies to throw out Tianna Drahn, who opened the inning by reaching on an error, at home. NIU’s next batter, Brittney Roby, also hit into a force play. Her groundball allowed the Aggies to throw out Jenny Kohl, who reached on the single, at home.

With Waddell almost out of the bases-loaded jam, Sammey Bunch stepped to the plate and hit a two-run, two-out RBI single up the middle to give NIU a 3-0 lead. Waddell was replaced by Headen in the third inning with the Aggies facing runners on first and second with two out. But Valainis hit an RBI single to give NIU a 4-0 advantage. The Aggies stayed within striking distance throughout the game, but the Panthers scored three runs in the seventh to pull away.

Bunch had five RBI for the Panthers. The Aggies will try to end their eight-game slide on Wednesday at home when they face Norfolk State in a non-conference doubleheader at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex with the first pitch from the circle scheduled for 1 p.m.
