Albuquerque, N.M-Seniors Shakia Forbes and Jarrell Elliott traveled to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the 2012 USA Indoor Track and Field Championship. The meet was held at the ABQ Convention Center Feb. 25-26.

This prestigious meet brought the best in indoor track and field under one roof to compete for a chance to represent the United States at the IAAF World Indoor Championship on March 10 -11,  to be held in Turkey.

Forbes competed in the women's long jump event, as the only athlete representing a Division I HBCU. Forbes finished 14th with an impressive distance of 19-feet, 4-inches.

Elliott competed in the men's 400 meter dash; however his time of 47.63 was not strong enough to advance him into the semifinals.

"It's always an honor for our athletes to represent our institution against some of the best athletes in the world," said interim director of North Carolina A&T track and field programs James Daniels. "Shakia Forbes and Jarrell Elliott had the opportunity to really test themselves against some great competition, which will ultimately make them better."
