GREENSBORO - The North Carolina A&T softball team partnered with PetSmart to host the second annual Animals Needing Treats Pet Food Drive at the PetSmart on Lawndale Drive.

The purpose of the community service project was to accept pet food donations that will be donated to the Guilford County Animal Shelter. The team collected $2,000 in donations of money, dog and cat foods for the GCAS.

"The A&T softball team and staff would like to thank PetSmart store manager, Tim Montgomery, the Guilford County Animal Shelter, supporters, pet owners and lastly, all the animals who came out with their owners to make contributions," said A&T softball coach Mamie Jones. "The experience was rewarding for all who supported our project. It was more rewarding for all the homeless, sick, hungry and innocent animals placed in the care of the Guilford County Animal Shelter waiting to be adopted."

Jones added that the event will definitely become one of the softball team's annual community service events.

"Our team members and coaches have pets in their homes, so this event means more than just providing community service," said Jones. "It's our way of giving back and being able to give back is a good feeling."
