THE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA PLAYER OF THE WEEK (JANUARY 28-FEBURYARY 3)
Full Name: Keenan Smith
Sport: Indoor Track and Field
Major: Computer Science
Hometown: Chesapeake, Va.
Professional Goals: "I plan on going into media broadcasting and journalism because I want to be a director and make films. I'm into writing and making screen plays to make videos."
The Student-Athlete: "It is one of the biggest challenges that I come across because I want to spend so much time studying my craft and studying my sport. But then I also have to study my books and make sure I'm on top of that because without grades, I can't be out here, and I need the grades in order to excel in life beyond sports."
His twin: Yes, I have a twin brother who runs track here too. He's a triple jumper along with me. He does long jump as well. It's definitely a competition. We're always arguing and going back and forth about who's better. It just makes us better overall.
The evidence for being the BCBSNC Athlete of the Week: Keenan Smith won the men's triple jump at the Hilton Garden Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Smith's winning jump was 49-feet, 9-inches. Smith was also a part of the Aggies 4x400 meter relay team that took first place in 3:19.31
Poole on being the BCBSNC Athlete of the Week: "I'm just trying to get back to that indoor season tempo, so I can excel past that once outdoor comes around. I was just trying to stay relaxed throughout the whole competition, and it worked out for me. I'm trying to get back to where I left off last year with a 50-foot jump."
