DOVER, Del. - The North Carolina A&T bowling team posted a 3-2 record the second day of action in the Capital Classic tournament at Brunswick Doverama to move to 5-5 overall in the tournament.

"All in all ending the first two days at 5-5, is definitely positive," said A&T head coach James Williams.  "It would have been great to get a win against a Top 20 opponent, but the bottom line is that we handled business and defeated the teams I felt we should have defeated."

The Aggies fell to No. 9 Adelphi to start the day.  The Aggies then bested Hampton 979-886.  Against No. 2 UMES, the defending NCAA champions, the Aggies lost  1100-867.  The Aggies then finished the day with a 998-961 win over Howard and a 948-894 win over Morgan State.

The Aggies (31-20, 10-6 MEAC) were able to improve upon their performance from Friday by making adjustments to their spare shooting and converting scoring opportunities with makeable spares.

"A great example was against Morgan State, which was the last match of the day. Morgan had more strikes than we did. However, we continuously made spares the entire game," Williams said.  "We kept the pressure on them all game, until we found our spots and started striking."

The improved execution in making spares was key to the team's victories.  Williams also said that he got some key leadership from senior Amber Brown on Saturday.

"Amber only had two open frames for 30 frames. That's three complete games, and those two opens were splits that have a high degree of difficulty.  She stepped up her game and led by example," Williams said.  "I couldn't have asked her to do anything different today. I just want that to carry over into tomorrow."

The playoff and championship rounds for the Capital Classic tournament will be held on Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m.  The Aggies will begin the playoffs as the No. 7 seed against N.C. Central.
