GREENSBORO-Junior transfer Shelby Snyder tossed a complete game shutout to help power the Aggies to their second win on the season, as the North Carolina A&T softball team beat Presbyterian in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex.

The Aggies (2-17) blanked the Blue House (14-12) by 6-0 in Game 1, but lost Game 2 by 12-2 as Presbyterian scored eight runs in the sixth inning.

Junior third baseman Tranea Jones batted 6-for-6 with two RBI and two runs on the day while junior catcher Sabrina Edmonds finished 4-for-5 with a double and four RBI.  Junior Jax Kaye Woodard had three hits, including a triple, and two RBI for the Aggies.

The Aggies started off strong in the first game.  A&T took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.  Sophomore second baseman Zabresha Blakeney led off with a walk, and advanced on a sac bunt by freshman shortstop Alejandra Barcenas.   Jones singles to put two on for Woodard, who tripled to right-center field to score the runners.  An RBI single by Edmonds brought home the third A&T run.

An RBI double by freshman Shaquionna Barnes in the third inning put A&T in front, 4-0.  The Aggies extended their lead with a pair of runs in the fourth frame.  Designated hitter Janika May reached on an error.  She advanced to second as Detavia Kenan singled.  Then Dominique Smith singled to load the bases with no out.   Blakeney hit into a fielder's choice, and May was put out at home.  With the bases still loaded and two out, Jones singled up the middle to bring home Kenan and Smith.  Woodard flew out to end the inning.

The Blue Hose had several chances to score in the first game, leaving eight stranded.   But Snyder was able to keep Presbyterian off the board.  She allowed nine hits with a walk and a strikeout in her 7.0 innings.

In the second game, the Blue Hose snapped the scoreless streak early.  An RBI triple by Cat Tarvin put Presbyterian ahead, 1-0, in the first inning.  The Aggies responded by stringing together three straight two-out singles to tie the game in the bottom of the first.

Presbyterian added a couple of more runs in the second inning.  An RBI single by centerfielder Tera Powell broke the 1-1 tie, and later first baseman Erin Taylor scored on a wild pitch, after reaching base on a walk.  Tarvin struck again with a solo home run to right field to put the Blue Hose ahead, 4-1, in the third frame.

The Aggies cut the lead to two runs in the fifth inning.  Jones led off with a single through the left side, and advanced as Woodard followed with a single to left.  Edmonds picked up another RBI with a single to centerfield to make it a 4-2 game.

The Blue Hose scored eight runs on eight hits in the top of the sixth.  The Aggies went down in order in to end the game.

A&T will host UNC Greensboro in a doubleheader at Lady Aggie Softball Complex starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
