Aggies Overview: North Carolina A&T is looking to snap a five-game losing streak when it returns home to face the Charlotte 49ers. A&T is 1-2 at Moore Gymnasium and notched its only win there on Sept. 6 against Alabama State. The Aggies recently participated in the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNC Wilmington Volleyball Classic. A&T faced a lot of experienced competition and fell 3-0 to Wilmington, Western Carolina and UNC Asheville during the two-day tournament. McDaniel led the Aggies at the tournament and was named to the all-tournament team after recording 23 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Jillian Nobles turned in a promising performance for the Aggies. She led the team in kills (eight) against Western Carolina and also posted another eight against UNC Asheville. The last time the Aggies faced the 49ers, they suffered a 3-0 loss on Sept. 11, 2010 at the Hilton University Place Tournament hosted by Charlotte.
49ers Overview: The 49ers are on a three-game winning streak after defeating MEAC teams Norfolk State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Bethune-Cookman at the Spartan Classic. Charlotte won all its matches in three sets at the Spartan Classic. Amanda Videmsek leads the 49ers in total kills (118) and kills per set (3.28). Videmsek also has help from freshman Claire Kreuz (2.83/set) and Taylor Cannon (2.67/set) who have each tallied 90 or more kills. The 49ers have recorded 492 kills while their opponents have registered 456. Charlotte has also posted a .224 hitting percentage and had their best performance (.361) against Maryland Eastern Shore. Additionally, Charlotte has posted a 2-1 road record.
Potential Star: Nobles started in every game for the Aggies at the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNCW Volleyball Classic. She finished with 19 kills during the tournament and showed a lot of future promise for A&T.
News & Notes:
- In the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNCW Volleyball Classic, McDaniel earned all-tournament honors after finishing with 23 kills and 18 digs. It was her third consecutive all-tournament team honor this season.
- McDaniel’s 12 kills against UNCA notched her fourth match this season in double-digit kills.
- Ashley Johnson is currently sixth in the MEAC in digs, averaging 3.46 digs per set.
