Aggies Overview:  The Aggies have endured five straight three-set loses at the hands of UNC Wilmington, Western Carolina, UNC Asheville, Charlotte, and Appalachian State. A&T will be competing in its third and final tournament of the regular season as it participates in the High Point University Classic. The Aggies have been led by Brooke Stamnes in the previous two matches. Stamnes finished with 10 kills against Charlotte and added four against Appalachian State. Liz Martino added 29 assists in the last two matches and Ashley Johnson recorded 27 digs. After the High Point University Classic, the Aggies will face Campbell on Tuesday, Sept.24 before opening up their MEAC schedule on Friday, Sept. 27 at N.C. Central.

Match Overview: High Point (4-7) is on a three-game losing streak after falling to Georgia Southern 3-0, Oral Roberts 3-1, and VCU 3-0 at the Georgia Southern Invitational. The Panthers are led by Chelsea Davis in kills (3.76/set) and Kristin Heldt (3.14/set). Maddie Simpson has recorded 298 assists and also leads High Point with 17 service aces. Davidson (6-3) is coming off a 3-1 win against Georgia State. Caroline Brown has recorded a team-leading 115 kills and 14 service aces. Mikayla Derochie has averaged 9.82 assists per set while Tindall Sewell is Davidson’s block leader (1.12/set). In its last match, Murray State (7-4) fell 3-1 to Southern Illinois. The Racers have posted an impressive 4-1 road record and are 3-2 at neutral sites. Alyssa Lelm (123), Scottie Ingram (116), and Taylor Olden (110) have all tallied over 100 kills for the Racers who are averaging 13.14 kills per set. Helm also leads the team in blocks (28).

Potential Star: It’s been two matches since McDaniel has last led the Aggies in kills but she has consistently led A&T in all three tournaments this season. If McDaniel finds her rhythm during this weekend’s tournament, she will help lead the Aggies to success.

News & Notes:

  •     This will be A&T’s second meeting with Murray State this season. At the Aggie-Spartan Invitational presented by Ashford Suites on Sept. 7, Murray State defeated A&T 3-1 at Moore Gym.
  •     In every tournament that the Aggies have played, Aleena McDaniel has been named to the all-tournament team.
  •     The last time A&T played High Point (Sept, 23, 2012) McDaniel led the Aggies in kills (nine) and digs (12).

From the Coach:

“It should be an exciting weekend for us. It’ll be some of our last few matches before conference play. I think we are ready to compete. We are looking for consistency and high energy.” A&T head volleyball coach Hal Clifton
