GREENSBORO -- The North Carolina A&T cross country teams continue their preparation for the MEAC Championships on Saturday as they head to Charlotte for the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational hosted by Charlotte University.  The women will compete in a 6k race, while the men will run an 8k event. The meet will take place at McAlpine Park.

This will be the Aggies first year competing at the Charlotte Invite. The competition will be competitive at this meet. This will also mark the first meet of the season the women will compete in a distance longer than the 5k.

Times are steadily dropping for both men and women’s teams in the earlier meets of the season. Having last weekend off gave both teams extra time to practice and get prepared for Charlotte’s tough course.

“We’re looking forward to this,” said Coach Duane Ross. “I think our training has been very well in the last couple weeks. We’re excited and looking to go down there and compete.”

There were some personal-best times recorded on the men’s and women’s side at Elon two weeks ago. Redshirt senior Janessa Benn ran a time of 20:11, placing 24th overall. Not far behind was sophomore Janay Ferrell, finishing 26th overall with a time of 20:33. The ladies took third place overall.

Freshmen Franky Mills and Darren White finished top 15 at the Elon Invitational. Mills finished 12th with a time of 27:11 and White placed 13th at 27:12. The men also placed third overall.
