Aggies Overview: The North Carolina A&T volleyball team returns back to MEAC action on Friday after dropping a 3-0 decision to Elon on Tuesday. Errors hurt the Aggies in their last match but they look to rebound in a pair of crucial conference games over the weekend. The Aggies are 1-2 in the MEAC with a win against N.C. Central and losses to Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. A&T has posted some of its best numbers in conference play. In MEAC matches, the team is hitting .236 while their opponents sit at .224. McDaniel has averaged 2.56 kills per set this season but in conference matches she is handing down 3.90 kills per set. Hawkins-Hollingsworth has registered a .452 hitting percentage against MEAC opponents and leads the team in blocks (six).
Match Overview: S.C. State is 2-1 in the MEAC after defeating Bethune-Cookman and Savannah State. It’s only conference loss came at the hands of Florida A&M who is undefeated in the MEAC Southern Division. The Bulldogs are led by Desire Waller who is second in the MEAC in kills (3.81/set). Waller has recorded 206 kills this season. Alyse Lewis leads the Bulldogs in blocks with 11 block solos and 35 block assists. Savannah State will be looking for its first conference win of the season as it has posted an 0-3 record in the MEAC after falling to S.C. State, Bethune-Cookman, and Florida A&M. Bianca Brochu has a team-leading 85 kills (1.39/set) followed by Bryana Gadis with 83 (1.38/set). Christian Lyle has led the Tigers in MEAC matches, averaging 1.78 kills/set.
Potential Star: McDaniel has led the Aggies in kills for the last three matches. McDaniel has tallied 47 kills in the Aggies last four matches averaging 3.62/set.
News & Notes:
- A&T split a pair of games with S.C. State in 2012. The Aggies won 3-0 in the regular-season finale where Stamnes led all players with 11 kills.
- The Aggies defeated Savannah State twice last season by scores of 3-0 and 3-1.
- Ashley Johnson is currently sixth in the MEAC in digs, averaging 3.82 digs per set. She is the only Aggie ranked in the MEAC top 10 in any statistical category.
