A&T Falls In Three At Wofford
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The North Carolina A&T volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-12, 18, 13) non-conference match to Wofford, Wednesday evening at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
The win snapped a two-match losing streak for Wofford (10-15). A&T fell to 5-21 overall.
"It was a tough loss for us tonight," head coach Hal Clifton said. "We struggled to find our rhythm offensively. We put some good points together but struggled with siding out."
The Aggies got off to a slow start in the first set which allowed the Terriers to take an 11-3 lead. A&T wasn’t able to get within reach as Wofford continued to hold a comfortable advantage. In the second set, the Aggies tied the game at 4 with kills from Stamnes and Jillian Nobles. Wofford went on a 4-0 run to regain the lead, 8-4, before the Aggies decided to call a timeout. The Terriers continued to put points together as the Aggies found it hard to rally from behind.
A&T scored the first two points to open the third set, but Wofford quickly answered and scored the next three points. A kill from Aleena McDaniel tied the game at 3 but the Terriers went on a 15-5 run to take the 18-8 advantage.
Taylor Baird led all players with 13 kills and Amanda Liguori tallied 12. Bekah Dorsey finished with a match-high 37 assists for the Terriers.
A&T will host Florida A&M on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., and Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m., in a pair of MEAC matches. Chelsea Fox will be honored on Sunday before the match begins in a Senior Day ceremony.
"We need a big crowd this weekend as we play against the top two teams in the division," Clifton said. "We are hoping the GHOE crowd will lend their support to our fight to go to Baltimore."
