GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T bowling team will open up the conference schedule on Saturday, Nov. 9-10 when it hosts the first MEAC meet of the season at AMF Lanes.

The two-day event kicks-off on Saturday at approximately 12:45 with five traditional games. Sunday’s baker games will begin at 9:45 a.m. Teams competing in the Southern Division include preseason favorite Norfolk State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, and North Carolina Central.

“Opening the MEAC this weekend will be good,” head coach James Williams said. “We are really looking forward to starting our conference schedule. We understand that this weekend starts a very tough journey on the road to where we want to be.”

The Aggies (7-3 overall) opened the season by winning the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational which included several nationally-ranked opponents. A&T knocked off No. 11 Adelphi and No. 17 St. Francis. The Aggies also clinched wins over Virginia State, Monmouth, Hampton, Morgan State, and Bowie State. A&T’s only three losses were to No. 12 Kutztown, No. 15 Norfolk State, and Monmouth.

However the Aggies will get another chance to face the Spartans (10-6) who defeated the Aggies by only 29 pins. The Wildcats are 10-8 to start the season and are ranked 20th in the National TenPin Coaches’ Association poll. The Rattlers have posted a 2-7 record while the Eagles will open their season on Saturday.

The Aggies were led by sophomore Emily Strombeck during opening weekend where she averaged 190.8. Strombeck also rolled a single-game high of 223. Freshman MacKenzie Robinson also helped lead A&T with a 190.6 average and a high of 216. Kristin Shinn (173.4) and Najah Owens (163.4) added extra support for the Aggies.

“I expect the same thing from the team as I did the opening weekend,” Williams said. “Consistency, making spares and communication is what I expect to see. Opening weekend was great, but we still have goals we need to reach. We lived in the moment of that opening weekend success. But that success is not going to help us this weekend. What will help is staying true to who we are and focusing on the things that we work on in practice. If we do that, then we will be successful.”
