GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T needed defense to stop a 16-game losing streak at Bethune-Cookman and sophomore Aggies men’s basketball player Bruce Beckford provided that in A&T’s 70-67 win Saturday evening.

For his efforts he was awarded MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on January 12. Beckford recorded career highs in rebounds (11), assists (4) and steals (2). He also had nine points and two blocked shots. Ten of Beckford’s rebounds came on the defensive end, which was also a career high.

Beckford leads the Aggies in rebounding at 7.0 per game, and he is second in the MEAC in the same category. Saturday marked the second time this season he recorded 11 rebounds, the first being at Georgia Tech on Nov. 24.  This marks the third weekly honor in Beckford’s career. He won two MEAC Rookie of the Week honors during the 2012-13 season.
