GREENSBORO – Another phenomenal performance on the lanes helped the North Carolina A&T women’s bowling team finish third at the Wildcat Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Twentieth-ranked A&T (47-20 overall) continued to improve day-by-day at the three day event. The Aggies were in 10th place on Friday, moved to sixth after Saturday’s team games, and won three straight games on Sunday to finish third in the tournament. The Aggies also posted the best record at the tournament with a 10-3 mark.
“I honestly don’t think the ladies felt pressure today,” head coach James Williams said. “I think they learned how to relax and just be themselves this weekend not just today. When a shot was needed, someone stepped in and made it. Going undefeated the last two days was a byproduct of trust, determination, and communication.”
Sunday’s competition included bracket play where the Aggies took down Alabama A&M 4-2 in the opening game. A&T defeated Alabama State 4-2 in the second round. In its final game, A&T claimed a 4-1 decision over McKendree.
Third-seeded Central Missouri won the event and top-seeded Arkansas State was the runner-up. McKendree finished in fourth, followed by Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Bethune-Cookman, UAB, No. 18 Monmouth, Tulane, Southern, Morgan State.
A&T will host the Aggie Master’s Challenge on Feb. 21-23.
