RALEIGH – N.C. State got the best of North Carolina A&T during the middle innings of Wednesday afternoon’s game as the Wolfpack defeated the Aggies 15-0 at Doak Field.
Junior catcher Lester Salcedo led the Aggies with two singles. After going 3-for-4 on Tuesday, redshirt junior Micah Carmony followed up with a 1-for-3 performance. The Aggies also received a decent outing from starting right-hander Mitchell McQueen who went four innings, gave up two earned runs on three hits.
The Wolfpack opened the game up in the fifth. Consecutive RBI singles from Trea Turner and Bubby Riley gave NCSU a 5-0 lead. Logan Ratledge delivered the big blow off of reliever Justin Godette, a three-run home run to left field, to put NCSU ahead 8-0. N.C. State added four more runs in the sixth.
Ratledge went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Brian Taylor, Andrew Knizner and Turner had two RBI apiece. Patrick Peterson (1-0) picked up the win after giving up three hits over 5.2 scoreless innings pitched. McQueen (0-1) took the loss for the Aggies who dropped to 1-1 on the season. The Wolfpack improved to 3-1.
The two teams scheduled the game because they both had games cancelled last week because of a substantial snow fall throughout North Carolina.
The Aggies return to action over the weekend when they host a three-game series at War Memorial Stadium Friday (3 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) against Marshall.
