A&T Blasts By Competition On Saturday
GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T bowling team continued its dominance in the second day of the Aggie Master’s Challenge by posting a 5-0 mark in traditional team play, Saturday afternoon at AMF Lanes.
No. 17 A&T (57-20 overall) is 10-0 in the tournament and remained in first place with a pinfall of 8,493 heading into Sunday’s bracket play.
The Aggies used a complete team effort in Saturday’s matches as four players finished in the top 10 in a field of 53 total bowlers. Freshman Kristin Shinn followed in second (210.8) as freshman MacKenzie Robinson (193.6) and sophomore Najah Owens (180.6) were fourth and sixth respectively.
“Courtney has been an instrumental part of the program’s rapid turnaround,” head coach James Williams said. “She has been a real team player. Every team needs that one person you know is going to be consistent day in and day out, and will make the big shot when needed. For us, that's been Courtney the last two years. She has led by example and really stepped up into a leadership role.
Cherise has been invaluable to the team especially this year. She has been the constant professional. She’s helped this otherwise young team mature quickly. Though her senior campaign didn't start out as well as she had liked individually, she has continued to work hard and is a vital piece of the success we have been having this season.”
The Aggies’ intensity was front and center from the first game where it defeated Winston-Salem State, 1028-830. Robinson pinned a team-high 237 followed by Shinn (232) and Strombeck (231). In the second game it was Strombeck’s 254 and Shinn’s 235 that helped A&T crush Hampton 1014-677. The Aggies also went on to take down Fayetteville State 926-802. Owens and Strombeck recorded a 211 in A&T’s 939-746 win over Morgan State. In the final game, the Aggies defeated Shaw 892-699 where Shinn rolled a team-leading 211.
