GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team will play four games in two days when it hosts Towson on Wednesday, March 19 and travels to UNC Wilmington on Thursday, March 20 for a pair of doubleheaders.

The Aggies (6-11 overall) will host Towson (12-8) beginning at 2 p.m., at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex and will take on UNCW (12-13) starting at 3 p.m. at Boseman Field.

After being on the road for nearly two weeks, A&T will return home where they are 1-3 this season. The Aggies will also look for its first back-to-back wins since defeating Gardner-Webb on Feb. 16 and UMES on Feb. 22.

Freshman Dasia Moore is currently on a five-game hitting streak which started on Mar. 8. She has started in all 16 games this season with a team-leading .340 batting average and 17 hits.

Pitchers Janika May (4.13 ERA) and Maiven McKnight (4.57) have combined for six wins, as May has recorded 27 strikeouts.

Towson has five players who have tallied 20 or more hits this season, along with at least 15 runs and is led by Maureen Repner who is hitting .438. Repner is second on the team in hits (28) behind Olivia Yarbrough (30), who heads the team in runs (21).Missy McCormick has recorded a team-high 30 RBI as the Tigers are hitting .312 as a squad.

Their offensive depth mirrors their defense which includes three pitchers, two which have combined for 10 wins. Amber Hickman (3.00) and McCormick (3.53) have tallied 25 strikeouts ahead of Megan Chocallo (5.89) who has tabbed 24.

Towson is also 3-0 against MEAC schools this season with wins over NCCU and Morgan State where it combined to outscore them 47-15.

UNCW is on a three-game losing streak after being swept by Presbyterian at home last weekend. The Seahawks have a stacked pitching rotation that includes four pitchers that have combined for a team 2.55 ERA. Casey Rowland (2.41) has won six games and struck out 71 batters. Payton Jordan (2.87) has recorded five wins and 52 strikeouts.

Brittany Gamby (.381), Nella Chamblee (.355), Claudia Spinelli (.333), and Jessica Rappe (.310) are all batting over .300 for UNCW. Gamby leads the Seahawks in hits (24) and runs (19) as Chamblee has tabbed a team-high 16 RBI.

UNCW is 5-0 against MEAC schools with wins over Norfolk State, UMES, and NCCU.

Following this week’s games, A&T will visit UNCG on Wednesday, Mar. 26 for a single game beginning at 6 p.m.
