CHESAPEAKE, Va. – No. 2 North Carolina A&T was eliminated from the 2014 MEAC Bowling Championship after it suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 6 Florida A&M in Sunday’s semifinal match at AMF Lanes.

FAMU topped the Aggies in four straight games by scores of 180-152, 177-161, 179-160, and 155-148. The Rattlers fell 4-3 in the championship match to top-seeded Maryland Eastern Shore, who captured its second consecutive league title.

“Today wasn’t our best performance and the team knows it,” head coach James Williams said. “Only difference now we don’t get a chance to atone for it. But with that being said, I’m really happy about the season as a whole. I believe it was a historic season with all the accomplishments individually and as a team.”

The Aggies (77-34 overall) finished the season ranked 13th in the NTCA coaches’ poll, its highest national ranking in program history.

Williams led the Aggies to its most successful season and was named the MEAC Coach of the Year on Friday after he guided the team to its first national ranking in December.

Seniors Cherise Poole and Courtney Crook who were vital instruments to the program’s rapid turnaround as well as providing veteran leadership for A&T saw their careers come to a close. However, their hard work has been entrusted to a talented group of young athletes who are expected to have an even better season next year.

The 2013-14 season also wrapped up another brilliant campaign for sophomore leader Emily Strombeck who was named the MEAC Bowler of the Year a year after being named the conference's top rookie. She recorded a season average of 202. A&T also saw a strong performance for rookie Kristin Shinn who was a second team All-MEAC selection.

The Aggies will return rising juniors Najah Owens, Briana Jackson, and Strombeck and rising sophomores Jorie Sineath, MacKenzie Robinson, and Shinn.

“With the core of the team returning next year we should very well be able to make a serious run at the MEAC championship,” said Williams.
