GREENSBORO – After four consecutive road games, the North Carolina A&T softball team will return back to the Lady Aggie Softball Complex to host Elon on Wednesday, April 9 for a single non-conference matchup starting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday’s game will also serve as Military Appreciation Day.

The Aggies (13-16 overall) faced the Phoenix (19-18-1) only a week ago where they dropped a 7-3 decision at Hunt Softball Park. Elon owns a 6-1 record over the Aggies over the last five seasons.

The Aggies went 2-1 in a three game series against Florida A&M while Elon posted a 1-2 mark against Chattanooga over the weekend since the two teams last met. The Phoenix are just 2-10-1 when playing on the road but the Aggies are 8-15 when facing non-conference opponents.

Pitchers Shelby Snyder (2-7) and Janika May (6-7) both appeared in last week’s game but were unable to tame an offense that belted three home runs and took a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Aggies were able to keep Elon scoreless for the remainder of the game, however, as A&T’s offense was able to break open three runs.

Snyder is coming off her best performance of the season where she struck out a season-high four batters in A&T’s last game, a 2-1 loss to FAMU. Offensively, Sabrina Edmonds has continued to lead the Aggies in hitting (.329), homers (five), and RBI (19) ahead of freshman Dasia Moore’s 18 RBI. Moore has recorded a team-high 28 hits, eight doubles and is batting .308.

The Phoenix are led by freshman Alaina Hall who is hitting .367 which is third in the Southern Conference. Emily Cameron has tabbed a .347 average at the plate while Carleigh Nester (.302) leads Elon in RBI (33) and home runs (11).

Pitcher Caitlin O’Shea (5-10) earned the win against the Aggies in the last meeting and has produced a team-low 2.97 ERA. Chelsea White (8-6) leads the Phoenix in strikeouts (49) behind Alli Burdette (36).

Following Wednesday’s game, A&T will hit the road again for a MEAC series at Savannah State beginning on Saturday, April 12.
