GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team will hit the road for a day trip in a non-conference doubleheader against Hampton on Tuesday, April 22 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Lady Pirates Softball Complex.
The Aggies (14-22) will be looking to snap a five-game losing skid after being swept by Bethune-Cookman over the weekend. A&T has struggled offensively in its last five games where it has hit just .151 as a team.
Hampton (19-18) is on a four-game winning streak after a win over George Washington and a sweep over UMES. In their last meeting, the Pirates handed the Aggies a 6-3 loss in the 2013 MEAC tournament. Hampton held the Aggies to four hits as pitcher Jailynn Jackson recorded nine strikeouts.
This season Jackson has secured 13 wins in the circle, posted a 2.74 ERA, and recorded 99 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .237 batting average. Jackson has received help from Jecholia Pratt (6-8) who has tossed nine complete games and struck out 25.
A&T’s pitchers will go up against a Hampton offense that is batting .272 behind Margaret Wilkins who is hitting .398 and leads the team in hits (47). Taylor McCoy (.302) and Wilkins have tallied a team-high 24 RBI. Danielle Budden (.339) has recorded 38 hits and drove in 23 runs. Wilkens (16) and Budden (15) also head the Pirates in stolen bases.
A&T will host Samford on Friday, April 25 for a single game starting at 2 p.m.
