GREENSBORO – Head coach James Williams of the North Carolina A&T bowling team announced the signing of three athletes for the 2014-15 season.
Brianna Boze (Summit, N.J. /Summit High School), Kori Smith (Garner, N.C. /Garner Magnet High School), and transfer Rakia Jenkins (Smyrna, Del. /Southern University) will join the Aggies who finished the 2013-14 season ranked 13th in the country by the National TenPin Coaches Association (NTCA).
“Last year was a historic year and we are looking to build upon that success,” said Williams. “We fell short of our goal of winning a MEAC Championship but we feel that with the addition of Brianna, Kori, and Rakia we have solidified our roster.”
Boze, Smith, and Jenkins join a powerful roster that returns most of its starters but will add more depth to the team.
“I see all three young ladies making a large contribution to the program and quickly,” said Williams. “They bring much needed skills and that will play a very large part in our success.”
A two-sport athlete at Summit High School in bowling and softball, Boze was a four year member of the varsity bowling team where she was named the team MVP for four consecutive years. She was also a four-time third team All-Central Jersey selection under head coach John Kratch.
Smith participated in club bowling at Garner Magnet High School where she was the captain for four seasons under head coach Ryan Woodard. In addition to competing, Smith spends her Saturday mornings coaching younger children. Smith graduated from high school in May with distinguished honors and as a N.C. Scholar.
Jenkins brings collegiate experience from Southern University of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) where she was an All-SWAC second team honoree last season.
“The biggest strengths for them are the intangibles,” Williams explained. “The desire and will to win. It's very much in line with the current roster. That's going to make our practices more competitive and force the incumbent players to work hard and be better.”
