Aggies Release Cross Country Schedule
GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T cross country men’s and women’s teams make a few changes to its 2014 schedule as it tries to secure each program’s first MEAC title.
The first change comes after the Western Carolina Cross Country Invitational, which will be the Aggies second year in a row competing in this meet, as the Aggies travel to Wilmington to compete in the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington. The Seahawk invite replaces the annual NCCU/A&T. The Aggies will also replace their routine trip to Elon for its invitational for a run in Cary in N.C. State’s Wolfpack Invitational.
The Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge, a meet A&T claims victory in last season, remains on the schedule. After the HBCU challenge, A&T heads to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the 19th Annual Disney Cross Country Classic presented by New Balance.
Numerous college, high school and middle school athletes from around the country compete at this prestigious meet.
ESPN will air the meet live.
Duane Ross, director of track and field programs, hopes the changes to the schedule prepare his teams for the MEAC Cross Country Championships on the campus of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md., on Oct. 25.
In 2013, the men place third at the conference championships.
“We’re excited to have a good recruiting class and our returners coming back,” says Ross. “I think the schedule is nice and competitive, it’ll get us prepared for MEAC (cross country championships) and regionals. I’m looking forward to the Disney meet and competing against other cross country runners around the nation. It’s going to be an exciting season for us.”
The Aggies first meet is Aug. 29 at the Western Carolina Cross Country Invitational in Cullowhee, N.C.
