GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women’s tennis program has released its 2014-15 schedule which includes a fall season slated to begin in September, followed by the regular season opener against Presbyterian College on Jan. 24.

The Aggies didn’t have a fall season last year and will look to take full advantage of four tournaments to help them get back into the swing of things. A&T will open with the Elon Invitational Sept. 12-14 followed by the HBCU National Tournament in Atlanta Sept. 18-21.  In October, the Aggies will compete in the Wake Forest Invitational Oct. 3-5 and wrap-up the fall schedule at the ITA Regional Championship in Chapel Hill, Oct. 16-20.

“Having a fall season this year is vital to our team’s success,” head coach Bruce Myers said. “The fall will give me a really solid idea of where we stand in the MEAC and what areas we need to improve.  I am very much looking forward to spirited, high energy practices where the team starts to bond as a unit, but also pushes each other every day on the court.”

After opening 2015 at home against Presbyterian on Jan. 24, A&T will visit Appalachian State the following day in Boone. The Aggies return home to host Western Carolina (Jan. 30) and then travel to Wofford College on Jan. 31. Home matches in February include UMES (Feb. 20), and Loyola University of Maryland (Feb. 28). Road matches scheduled for February include Charlotte (Feb. 7), Elon (Feb. 14) and UNC Greensboro (Feb. 28).

A&T will host a three-match home stand featuring West Virginia State (Mar. 1), UNC Asheville (Mar. 9), and Gardner-Webb (Mar. 11) before beginning conference play at the MEAC Round-Up in Florence, S.C., March 13-16.

The Aggies will keep heading south as they take on Southern University (Mar. 21) and Clark Atlanta University (Mar. 22) in a pair of non-conference matchups in Atlanta. A&T will open April in Virginia by visiting Longwood University (Apr. 2) and Norfolk State (Apr. 3) before returning home for the regular-season finale against N.C. Central (Apr. 10).

“As the quality of our team went up dramatically, so did the difficulty of our spring schedule,” said Myers. “Aside from the challenge that other MEAC schools provide year in and year out, we have non-conference matches against teams from the CAA, Conference USA, Patriot League, Big South, SoCon, SWAC and SunBelt Conference that will help us prepare for our round-up.”

The top four teams in each division of the MEAC will qualify for the conference tournament scheduled for April 17-20 in Cayce, S.C.
