GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T softball team struggled to get its bats going on Saturday which caused it to lose a pair of games at the Charleston Southern tournament.

The Aggies (3-5 overall) went 0-4 at the tournament and fell 6-3 to Tennessee Tech in their first game on Saturday and 9-1 to Charleston Southern in their finale.

A&T gained momentum against Tennessee Tech (5-6 overall) in the first inning after seizing a 3-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Alexiss Dominguez reached on a error which allowed Zebresha Blakeney to score the game’s first run. Back-to-back RBI singles from Syerra Askew and Kaelyn Moore gave the Aggies a 3-0 lead.

After keeping Tech scoreless for six innings, the Golden Eagles unleashed four hits and took advantage of two errors to take a 6-3 edge over the Aggies in the seventh inning. After Blakeney led off the inning with a single, Tech recorded the next three outs to win the game.

Alejandra Barcenas was 3-for-4 while Moore was 2-for-2. Maiven McKnight (2-3) finished with three strikeouts.

CSU’s offense gave it an 8-0 lead until the Aggies were able to get a run across in the fifth inning. Hits from Janika May, Raven Gray, and Askew, which were the only hits from the Aggies, allowed them to score. Charleston Southern scored a run and ended the game in the sixth inning due to the run rule. May (1-2) took the loss and recorded one strikeout.

A&T will host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, Feb. 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex.
