Swim Teams Competes Against UNF, Campbell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Carolina A&T swimming team took a trip to the University of North Florida for a meet against Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association opponents North Florida and Campbell on Saturday. The Aggies lost to North Florida 213-40 while Campbell defeated the Aggies 209-37.

N.C. A&T’s Victoria Orr took on a lot of responsibilities for the Aggies. Orr had one top-5 finish Orr’s best performance was a third-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke. Orr swam a 33.26 to finish ahead of three North Florida swimmers.

Orr also competed well in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time of 1:14.67 was approximately two seconds better than her seed time as she finished seventh.  She also had a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. She finished the race in 2:36.11.

Ariel Wallace also had a couple of good performances for the Aggies. Wallace along with Orr and Aarica Carrington and Kenya Dunn bested their seed time by finishing 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.73. Wallace was the top Aggie in the 50-yard breaststroke by finishing in 30.27. She bested her seed time in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.70.

But her best race of the day in which she scored for the Aggies was the 50-yard butterfly. She sprinted to a fifth-place finish with an impressive swim of 28.35. The talented sophomore finished ahead of several veteran swimmers. Senior Miranda Jacobs also bested her seed time as she completed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.11, eight-tenths of a second better than the seed time.

The Aggies will not get much of a rest between competitions. The Aggies come home to compete against Virginia Military Institute Wednesday night (Oct. 14) at Corbett Sports Center at 6 p.m.
