Pitt Earns MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week
GREENSBORO (October 2, 2017) – North Carolina A&T freshman Courteney Pitt (6-1, outside hitter, Farmville, N.C.) was tabbed co-rookie of the week by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the conference announced on Monday. Pitt was key in the Aggies five-set win over rival North Carolina Central to open conference play. She racked up 13 kills in the match, while also chipping in season-highs in services aces (2), total blocks (2) and digs (3).
Pitt competed in all five sets at NCCU last Tuesday, and exploded for six kills in the fourth set powering A&T to a 25-22 victory. She then chipped in three kills, contributing to a 15-10 win in the fifth. She posted a .194 hitting percentage on 36 attempts for 13 kills. It marked her fourth double-figure kill match of the season.
Pitt has come along strong defensively, totaling eight blocks in her last seven matches. She is the first N.C. A&T volleyball player to receive rookie honors since Liz Martino was named Rookie of the Week on October 14, 2013.
“We are very proud of Courteney on being named co-rookie of the week,” said N.C. A&T coach Hal Clifton. “She has played in some really good matches this year and continues to learn and improve each week. We are excited for her future.”
The Aggies are in Moore Gymnasium for a three-match homestand this week beginning with Gardner-Webb on Tuesday (6pm) in their final non-conference match. Conference play resumes with Savannah State on Friday (7pm) and South Carolina State on Sunday (2pm).
