CHARLESTON, SC (February 10, 2018) – North Carolina A&T ran into two pretty good offensive teams during the second day of the Wingate by Windham Softball Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern at CSU Softball Field.

The Aggies (0-4) lost their first game on Saturday, 11-3 to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in six innings. The second game did not turn out any better as the Towson Tigers defeated N.C. A&T 19-3 in five innings. The Fighting Hawks produced 13 hits while the Tigers compiled 19 hits. Senior catcher Nathaly Pacheco led the Aggies against the Fighting Hawks as she went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Azaria Isbell picked up her first career RBI in the game.

Freshman second baseman Jendayi Wright went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Wright already has three RBI in her young career. Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Williams and sophomore outfielder Alyssa Green also brought in runs against Towson.

North Dakota got off to a fast start against the Aggies as they took a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. N.C. A&T cut that lead in half in the top of the third. Redshirt freshman third baseman Marcey Jiles helped the cause when she earned a one-out single. Jiles moved to third on a throwing error that allowed junior outfielder Zadia Davis to reach second. Wright followed with a sacrifice bunt that moved Davis to second and allowed Jiles to score to put the Aggies down 6-1.

Pacheco kept the rally going by torching a double down the right field line to score Davis. After freshman pitcher Hailee Cutts was hit by a pitch, Isbell singled to score Pacheco from second to get the Aggies to within three runs at 6-3. The inning ended on a strike out by freshman outfielder Nijah McCray.

The Fighting Hawks closed out the game in their sixth. Leading 7-3, the Fighting Hawks posted four runs to activate the 8-run rule after five. Cutts (0-2) took the loss for the Aggies after facing 15 batters over two innings. Junior reliever Mohagony Headen struck out six in 3.2 innings of relief. Hannah Bergh (2-1) got the win.

Freshman Bailey Kirby (0-2) was the losing pitcher against Towson. Megan Dejter (1-0) got the win.

Following a six-run first inning by the Tigers, the Aggies responded with two runs of their own in their first. A double by Wright put runners on third and second after senior outfielder Raven Gray reached on an error. The bases were loaded after Headen reached on an error. Dejter then hit sophomore outfielder sophomore Alyssa Green with a pitch to force in a run. An RBI groundout by sophomore shortstop Stephanie Williams cut the Tigers lead to 6-2.

But the Tigers scored four in the second and five in the third to take a 15-2 advantage. N.C. A&T was only able to respond with an RBI single from Wright in the second that scored junior catcher Morgan Chisholm who reached base on a single.

The Aggies have one more game remaining in the Wingate by Windham invite, an 1 p.m., contest against host Charleston Southern on Sunday. N.C. A&T then comes home to the Lady Aggies Softball Complex to play in their annual North Carolina A&T Softball Invitational. They open with Howard at 2:30 p.m., Friday.
