GREENSBORO (February 27, 2018) – Davidson sent 10 players to the plate in the third inning against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday to take control of a game they eventually won 12-3 at War Memorial Stadium in non-conference baseball play.

Senior outfielder Greg White went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Aggies. Eight different Aggies had at least one hit against the Wildcats. Freshman left-hander Ethan Chavis got the start and sat down the Wildcats (7-1) in order in the first inning. But the second and third innings proved more difficult for Chavis.

Back-to-back walks to open the second eventually led to a Greg Lowe RBI single for a 1-0 Davidson lead. Max Bazin followed with an RBI single up the middle to complete the Wildcats’ two-run second. The Davidson third opened with another Chavis walk which led to him being replaced by Walfrank Pineiro (RHP).

Davidson put together three straight hits after Pineiro’s arrival to take a 4-0 lead. Pineiro did strike out Ward Coleman but loaded the bases with a walk to Alex Mardiney. A wild pitch allowed Eric Jones to score the Wildcats next run. Two more singles led to two more runs and a 7-0 lead before Pineiro was replaced by Jonah Owenby (LHP). An error followed Owenby to the mound as Lowe scored to complete the six-run third to take an 8-0 lead.

After giving up a double and a walk to open the fourth inning, Owenby retired five straight Wildcats before Cam Johnson singled. Owenby threw 5.1 innings, gave up one run and struck out six. The Aggies (3-5) got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by White. Senior catcher Adan Ordonez made it a 9-2 game in the seventh inning with an RBI single up the middle. An RBI single in the eighth inning closed out the Aggies scoring.

Connor Gordon (RHP) got the win for the Wildcats to improve to 2-1. Chavis (0-1) took the loss. Bazin led the Wildcats by going 3-for-5 with two RBI. The Aggies are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to play USC Upstate at 4 p.m. The Aggies will host a three-game series at War Memorial March 2-4 against Bucknell.
