Andrew Brown became an assistant for the North Carolina A&T men’s basketball program under head coach Jay Joyner in August of 2018. Brown will be responsible for team travel, summer camps, producing scouting reports, making sure players have housing, academic monitoring and recruiting.

Brown came to N.C. A&T after coaching at nearby Winston-Salem State where he served three seasons under head coach James Wilhelmi starting in 2015. Before the start of the 2016-17 season, Brown was promoted to associate head coach. After the 2017-18 season, he was named interim head coach.

He coached a program in St. Andrews that was in transition to move to NAIA in 2012. Brown built the program strategically, increasing their win total each season. Brown led the Knights to a 9-14 mark in 2014-15 and a 6-12 mark in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). St. Andrews's nine wins and six conference wins were the most for the program in four seasons. In his first season at SAU, the Knights finished 2-25 overall and 1-15 in the AAC. The second year saw the Knights improve to 5-19 overall and 3-15 in conference.  Two St. Andrews players earned second-team All-AAC in Titus Gray and Aaron Smith. In his third season, the Knights finished 9-14 overall and 6-12 in the AAC.  Brown was an assistant at SAU in 2011-12 under Richie Scheuler.

Brown gained valuable experience as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Mercer University for two seasons (2008-10) under Bob Hoffman. Mercer advanced to the A-Sun conference championship game in 2009-10.

Brown was an assistant coach under John Meeks at Wallace Hanceville CC during the 2010-11 season. Prior to coaching at Mercer, Brown played for the Bears for three seasons. He led the Bears in scoring as a senior at 15.5 points per game. Off the court, he was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference all-academic team. Brown played one season at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio where he played an instrumental role in his team finishing with a 28-6 and a No. 4 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

He had a brief professional career in Germany’s second league division and when he toured overseas to the Czech Republic and Bulgaria with Athletes In Action (2008).

Brown holds both a B.A., and a Master’s degree in education degree from Mercer University. Born and raised in Pontiac, Mich., Brown is a member of the NABC and NAFCED organizations. He is married to Paula Brown and they have one daughter, Peyton Brown.
