YOUR NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES: After having its two-match winning streak snapped in a close game Tuesday night, North Carolina A&T looks to bounce back this weekend with the UNCW Hampton Inn Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.

The Aggies face Western Carolina followed by Drake and tournament host UNC Wilmington.

N.C. A&T fell to USC Upstate 3-1 (25-22,25-21,22-25,27-25) their last time out. The home opener at Corbett Sports Center featured junior setter Edie Brewer nearly recording her third career triple-double with a career-high 19 kills, 27 assists and nine digs to along with five service aces and a .621 hitting percentage. 

Junior outside hitter Courteney Pitt recorded a match-high 20 kills and added six digs while sophomore right side hitter Fatimah Shabazz added 11 kills.

Defensively, sophomore libero Andrea Laboy-Rivera led the team with 15 digs while Shabazz and junior middle hitter Tasmyn Fahey each added four blocks apiece.

Pitt ranks third in the MEAC with 3.86 kills per set. She also averages 1.86 digs per set while Brewer ranks fifth in the league in assists at 5.76. The dynamic athlete also averages 2.70 kills and 2.51 digs per set while ranking sixth in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.252).

Laboy-Rivera ranks fourth in the MEAC in digs per set (3.89) and Hall is second in the conference in blocks per set (0.93).

WESTERN CAROLINA CATAMOUNTS: The Catamounts won the last time out 3-0 against UNC Asheville to snap a four-match losing streak. WCU is led by Merry Gabel with 3.33 kills per set, Hannah Price with 10.80 assists per set and Megan Sanchez with 5.78 digs per set.

DRAKE BULLDOGS: After losing their first match, the Bulldogs went 5-1 during their next six, but lost last three matches including two top-20 matchups to No. 12 Washington (3-0) and No. 17 Creighton (3-1). Drake is led by Haley Bush with 3.82 kills per set, Paige Aspinwall with 5.68 assists per set and Kylee Macke with 4.34 digs per set.

UNC WILMINGTON SEAHAWKS: The Seahawks started the season 5-0 before falling to Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Duke, 3-1. UNCW is led by Jaime Thomas with 2.71 kills per set, Brynn Montgomery with 5.18 assists per set and Anna Weissman with 3.87 digs per set.

Playing Well: Pitt has recorded double-figure kills in each of the last four matches including two 20-plus kill matches and is averaging 4.87 kills, 1.40 digs and 0.40 service aces. Shabazz has also recorded double-figure kills in each of the last four matches and is averaging 3.53 kills and 0.67 blocks in that stretch. Over the last four matches, Brewer is averaging 7.07 assists, 3.0 kills, 3.07 digs 0.47 service aces and 0.33 blocks with a .398 hitting percentage including two double-doubles and a triple-double.

Career Watch: Pitt recorded a match-high 20 kills in Tuesday’s match to give her 728 career kills. She needs 23 kills to move into eighth place in school history. Danesha Taylor (1998-01) holds the eighth spot with 750 kills. Brewer has 1,447 career assists and needs 177 assists to move into fourth place in school history. Gina Renzaglia (1999-01) holds the fourth spot with 1,623 career assists. Brewer tied a career-high with five service aces Tuesday to give her 80 career service aces, which moves her into eighth place. Brewer needs four service aces to move into seventh place. Samara Brown (2014-17) holds the seventh spot with 83 career service aces.

Up Next: The Aggies start MEAC play with S.C. State Friday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. in Moore Gymnasium. They will then face rival N.C. Central 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Moore.
