Carr, Porter Each Birdie Three Times On Day 2 of Starmount

GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women's golf team completed the final day of the Starmount Fall Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro at the par-72, 6,186-yard Starmount Country Club golf course on Tuesday.

The Aggies finished ninth over the two-day, three-round tournament that saw the Aggies shoot an 830-over 947. The University of Alabama-Birmingham claimed the title by shooting a 41-over 905. UAB was followed by UNCG, Towson, William & Mary and Radford in the top-5.

N.C. A&T was led by sophomore Christyn Carr who finished tied for 19th with a 15-over 231. UNCG's Tara Bettle won the individual title by shooting a 1-over 217.

Making the biggest second-day improvement for the Aggies was junior Madison Harriman. She went for tied in 49th place after the first round to finish tied for 45th after the second round to finishing 37h for the tournament with at 24-over 240. Freshman Kiaira Porter had the second-lowest score for the Aggies at 21-over to finish tied for 31st.

Senior Jocelyn Andrews was the other scorer for the Aggies carding a 24-over 240 to finish tied with Harriman in 37th.

Carr had an up and down back nine for the Aggies on Tuesday. She came away from the first three holes at plus-3 before birdieing the par-4, 359-yard 13th and the par-5, 463-yard 14th to go to 1-over. She dropped to 2-over after a birdie on par-4, 385-yard 16th. After a bogey on 17, she ended the back-nine at 1-over with a par on 18. Her front nine included two bogeys and a triple bogey.

Carr had the better front nine in the second round on Monday shooting even par over the first nine holes of the course including a birdie at the par-3, 174-yard eighth.

Porter tied Carr for most birdies on the day with three. Porter led the Aggies in birdies for the tournament with seven. She birdied two on the back nine on Tuesday by sinking a putt on the par-4, 367-yard No. 12 and the par-5, 470-yard No. 18. When making the turn, she birdied the par-4, 375-yard No. 1

 Meanwhile, Harriman was steady all day on Tuesday. She finished the back nine at 1-over and her only major hiccup on the front nine was a double bogey on the par-5, 500-yard seventh. Andrews had a terrific front nine on Tuesday as she carded a 1-over with two bogeys and one birdie on the 460-yard par-5 at No. 5.

The Aggies were in eighth place after the first round on Monday.

Low score for the Aggies on Monday was shared by Carr and Porter. Porter shot a 4-over 76 in the first round before shooting a 77 in the second round. Carr was 7-over in the first round but recovered to shoot a 74 in the second. Both golfers were in 17th place.

The Aggies are back in action again next week when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to play in Winthrop's tournament on Oct. 7.
