EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T women’s bowler Ana Olaya (Bogota, Columbia) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Week, announced by the conference Tuesday.

“She had a great weekend,” N.C. A&T coach Kim Terrell-Kearney said.  “I’m glad to see her hard work paying off and I’m excited to see what’s to come.”

The junior totaled 1,045 pins in five games last Saturday for an average of 209.0 to finish in seventh place. She also recorded 225-plus pins in three of the five games she played.

Olaya started off with a 171 against No. 23 Youngstown before recording a 225 against Prairie View A&M in the second game and a 230 against No. 3 Stephen F. Austin in the third game.

The two-time All-MEAC performer recorded her season-high of 235 against host No. 5 Sam Houston State in the fourth game and finished the day with a 184 against No. 4 Nebraska.

In a field that consisted of five of the top-six teams in the country, the Aggies finished the tournament in fifth place. N.C. A&T placed three in the top-20 Saturday with all three recording an average of 200 or better.

This season, Olaya leads the Aggies with 2,011 total pins and with an average of 201.10. She ranks second on the team with four 200-plus games. Junior Cameron Strombeck leads the team with six.

The Aggies begin MEAC play this week with the first MEAC meet of the season in Baltimore, Md., hosted by Coppin State.
