Cross Country Teams Receive NCAA Award

EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T cross country teams were honored as a recipient of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Public Recognition Award, announced by the NCAA Wednesday.

“We are so pleased with the work of our cross country student-athletes, coach Ross and his staff and the personnel in the Center for Academic Excellence,” said Director of Athletics, Earl M. Hilton III.  “These students have demonstrated again that academic success and athletics excellence are frequently positively correlated.”

The honor is bestowed on teams with an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports based on the Academic Progress Report data released in May 2019.

Under director of track and field programs Duane Ross, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams had a successful season.  The men’s team won the MEAC Cross Country Championship last season.

It was their first title since 1983.  The women’s team finished in the top-six of the MEAC Championship for the fourth consecutive season by finishing third last season. It was their highest finish since 2009 when they finished second.
