BUIES CREEK (April 18, 2017) – North Carolina A&T softball broke a six-game losing streak and in the process got a big boost going into their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series this weekend as they defeated Campbell 1-0 Tuesday night at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Sophomore Zadaisha Waddell was sensational in the circle. She pitched a complete-game two-hitter, walked four and struck out a career-high seven batters in the win. Waddell (7-12) kept the ball out of the hair as well. The Camels (26-21) had 10 groundouts and just three flyouts. It was Waddell’s second career complete-game shutout, both coming this season.

The Aggies (11-26-1) needed Waddell’s brilliance. N.C. A&T’s only run of the game came in the fourth inning and that was due in part to Waddell. Junior Talisha Jenkins opened the fourth by singling to left field which was followed by an RBI double to center field by Waddell for the only run scored in the game. After helping her own cause at the plate, Waddell went into the circle and continued to be dominant. Waddell did not give up a hit from the fourth inning on. She got Taylor Campbell to hit into a fielder’s choice in the third inning and then proceeded to retire the next seven Campbell batters before walking Amber Schisler to open the sixth inning. The only other Camel base runner came in the seventh when pinch-hitter Madison Herring was hit by a pitch.

Jenkins led the Aggies offensively by going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Zadia Davis went 2-for-3 as well.  The Aggies have a crucial three-game series at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex against Savannah State starting Saturday with a 1 p.m., doubleheader. The series concludes Sunday with a noon start. Before the game the Aggies will celebrate Senior Day.
