GREENSBORO (October 9, 2017) – North Carolina A&T freshman Edie Brewer (6-foot, setter, West Chester, Ohio) earned her first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week accolade, announced by the conference on Monday. The Aggies went undefeated in three matches last week and have won five in a row highlighted by Brewer’s triple-double against Gardner-Webb.

This is the second consecutive week that an Aggie was named the conference’s rookie of the week after Courteney Pitt took the honor last week.

Brewer recorded the first triple-double for N.C. A&T volleyball since 1994 with her 13 kills, 25 assists and 11 digs in a four-set non-conference win over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday in Moore Gymnasium. She also had three total blocks and two service aces in the match, and in her next match Brewer tallied 16 assists and nine kills on a season-best .643 hitting percentage in a straight-set win over Savannah State. Against South Carolina State, Brewer garnered a match-high 17 assists with four kills and a service ace.

“We are very happy for Edie,” N.C. A&T coach Hal Clifton said. “She has done a really nice job in matches both running the offense as well as attacking. She has been aggressive with her play, and it’s been fun watching her compete.”

In addition, Brewer is tied for seventh in the nation in triple doubles, 10th in service aces (35) and 11th in aces per set (0.49). Brewer has led her team in assists in every match, has four double-doubles and 19 double-figure assists matches.  The Aggie freshman has been a major contributor to N.C. A&T’s resurgence. Clifton has his most wins (11) in seven seasons at the helm of the volleyball program, and they are the top team in the MEAC Southern Division along with Bethune-Cookman at 3-0. The Aggies also have an overall .550 winning percentage at 11-9.

The Aggies are on the road this weekend in Florida for a pair of conference matches. N.C. A&T heads to Daytona Beach to face Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. Then it is onto Tallahassee for a meeting with Florida A&M on Oct. 15 at 3 p.m.
