GULF SHORES, Ala. – North Carolina A&T women’s golf team finished the 2019 Bama Beach Bash hosted by the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 11th place. The Aggies shot a 143-over par, 1,007 over the three-round event at the par-72, 6,002-yard Gulf Shores Golf Course.
N.C. A&T shot a final-round 44-over, 332 on Sunday to close out the tournament. Bethune-Cookman won the tournament with a 29-over, 893. They defeated South Alabama by one shot after
The top golfer for the Aggies on the weekend was freshman Christyn Carr. She was consistent throughout, shooting a 77 in each round to finish 15-over, 231. Carr was tied for 14th for the weekend, 15 shots behind winner Yudika Rodriguez of Bethune-Cookman.
Carr started the day at the par-4, 373-yard No. 12 where she bogeyed. She then triple bogeyed the par-3, 164-yard 13th before getting her day on track. She parred the next four holes until she got to the par-5, 504-yard 18th where she carded a birdie to get to 3-over on the day.
She put together back-to-back birdies when a birdie putt dropped for her at the par-4, 325-yard No. 1 to get Carr down to 2-over. It was as low as she would go in the round as she finished the rest of the round with six pars, a bogey
Sophomore Madison Harriman finished the tournament tied for 39th after a birdie-less third round. Harriman was 14-over for the day. Junior Jocelyn Andrews had her best round of the tournament by shooting a 6-over, 78.
Andrews improved each round. She shot a disappointing first-round 93 before dropping 11 strokes on Saturday to shoot an 82. Andrews started her day at the par-5, 476-yard 14th. She parred the hole before going on to par the final five holes on the back nine as she came to No. 1 even par.
She bogeyed four of the first seven holes on the front nine before birdieing the par-3, 164-yard No. 8 to get to 3-over. She bogeyed No. 9 but parred her next three holes before unfortunately closing the day with a double bogey.
The Aggies will get a month away from competition before traveling to Savannah, Ga., for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Showcase, April 19-20.
