GREENSBORO - For the second straight week, the North Carolina A&T defense held an opponent below 50 yards rushing. Aggies junior defensive end Tony Mashburn (6-0, 230, Tallahassee, Fla.) played a big part in that. In the Aggies victory on Saturday, Mashburn recorded seven tackles, made three tackles for 12 yards loss, recovered two fumbles and forced another.
Mashburn's efforts earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Mashburn earns the Aggies first weekly defensive honor since Jarrell Herring earned the honor during Week One of the 2009 season.
Jose Garcia-Camacho also earned a weekly honor from the conference. Garcia-Camacho connected on 24 and 29-yard field goals and was named MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mashburn leads the team in tackles for loss with 6 1/2 . On Saturday, Mashburn recovered a fumble on Bethune-Cookman's first drive of the fourth quarter. On the Wildcats' second possession of the quarter, Mashburn forced a fumble to put the Wildcats away.
On the season, Garcia-Camacho has hit all four of his field goals and has been successful on 12 of his 13 PATs. He leads the team in scoring with 24 points. The Aggies return to action, Saturday, Oct. 15 as they face Delaware State for the Greatest Homecoming on Earth at 1:30 p.m., at Aggie Stadium.
