GREENSBORO – D’Vonte Grant closed out the season by being named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league.
Grant helped the Aggies shutout archrival N.C. Central on Saturday by making 13 tackles, making an interception and returning a fumble for a touchdown. Grant’s touchdown came in the fourth quarter when D’Anthony Ross hit N.C. Central quarterback Malcolm Bell in the backfield. The hit jarred the ball loose and put it in the hands of Grant for a 20-yard fumble return for a TD. It marked the fourth time in Grant’s career that he returned a turnover for an Aggies touchdown.
“This guy was a walk-on, and he’s one of the best if not the best linebacker in the conference,” said A&T head coach Rod Broadway. “This guy just makes play after play for us. His leadership has gotten better and his ball skills have gotten better. When he’s not making big plays, he’s playing sound and solid.”
Grant’s performance also helped him exceed 100 tackles for the season. He came into the game needing 11 to reach the plateau.
