GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T swimming team fell 110-48 to Campbell in a dual meet Friday evening at the Johnson Natatorium in Buies Creek.
“I’m very pleased with the ladies’ performance tonight,” head coach Shawn Hendrix said. “Due to the weather and construction not completed we only had two days of swim practice this week. This team has had a tough year not training in our home pool, having to commute to practice every morning at 5:30 a.m. They surprised me how well they performed. The winter training trip gave them a great foundation for the spring season. “
Campbell won eight of the ten events but A&T did perform well in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Aggies claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Junior Danielle Jackson won the event with a time of 1:12.66 and senior Aarin Miles followed in second (1:27.12). Miles, who is recovering from an injury also posted her best time of the season in the 200-yard IM (3:04.10). The 200-yard freestyle relay team also picked up a first place finish with a time of 1:47.48.
Freshman Dominique Crable was third in the 100-yard freestyle and clocked a time of 58.72. Senior Christian Hill was fourth (2:17.95) in the 200-yard freestyle, while sophomore Kenya Dunn (26.35) and senior Courtney Jefferson (28.34) were fifth and sixth respectively in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Aarica Carrington (1:09.45) and sophomore Jade Hill (1:10.03) took the fourth and fifth spots.
Jackson also finished fifth in the 100-yard free (1.00.30) as Christian Hill (1:13.69) and Jade Hill (1:16.22) were fifth and sixth respectively in the 100-yard backstroke.
A&T will host UNC Asheville on Friday, February 7 at 5 p.m. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
