GREENSBORO – Its first home meet of the season was its last. Yet fans packed Corbett Sports Center to cheer on the North Carolina A&T swimming team in a dual meet against UNC Asheville on Friday evening. Friday’s meet also served as Senior Day for four swimmers, dimming the light on their collegiate careers.

Despite the outcome of the meet, seniors Erika Eisenman, Christian Hill, Courtney Jefferson, and Aarin Miles relished in the moment, taking one last time to reflect on their contributions to the program.

“From their freshman year the seniors have really grown into leaders,” assistant coach Gia Wright said. “Their leadership wasn’t just in the pool amongst their younger teammates but in the classroom and community. That makes me proud of them and confident that they’ll be productive members of society.”

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Dominique Crable, Miranda Jacobs, Aarica Carrington, and Kenya Dunn performed well and won the event with a time of 1:45.20. The 200-yard medley relay team (Jacobs, Danielle Jackson, Eisenman, and Dunn) were second clocking a time of (1:54.64).

Dunn led the Aggies in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.27 to finish second and Jefferson finished in fifth (27.76). In the 200-yard individual medley, sophomore Victoria Orr was third (2:26.89) followed by Eisenman in fifth (2:37.40) and Miles in sixth (3:00.00).

Sophomore Niya Ross picked up a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:05.36. Carrington completed the event with a time of 1:07.00, landing her in fifth and sophomore Jade Hill was sixth (1:08.86).

In the 100-yard freestyle, Crable (57.46) and Dunn (58.96) were third and fourth respectively, while Jefferson was seventh (1:03.84). Jacobs led A&T in the 100-yard backstroke. Jacobs was third with a time of 1:08.20 as Hill finished behind her in fourth (1.11.46).

Ross (5:59.85) and Hill (6:07.15) finished second and third respectively in the 500-yard freestyle while Jackson (1:11.62) and Crable (1:16.62) took the second and third spots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Carrington (2:09.00) and Ross (2:09.25) finished third and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle.

“I appreciate all the support that we had today,” head coach Shawn Hendrix said. “It was nice to see that people took the time to be creative with Senior Day and celebrate the ladies.”

The Aggies will close the 2014 season when it competes at the CCSA Championships on Thursday, February 20.
