Aggies Compete In CCSA Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The North Carolina A&T swim team competed in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center.  

After day one of the events the Aggies were in last place with 12 points. The only event the Aggies competed in on opening day was the 800-yard freestyle relay placing 11th with a finishing time of 8:50.29. The relay consisted of sophomores Niya Ross, Jade Hill, Victoria Orr and junior Danielle Jackson.

Day two of the CCSA Championships, the Aggies were in 13th place with a total of 22 points. The women’s 200-meter yard freestyle relay (Miranda Jacobs, Kenya Dunn, Niya Ross, Aarica Carrington) placed 12th with a time of 1:41.63.

On day three of the meet, two Aggies got food poisoning causing the team to scratch one their relays and their individual events. Sophomore Miranda Jacobs got a personal-best in the women’s 100-back preliminaries with a time of 1:04.83 placing 46th.

Sophomore Kenya Dunn placed 43rd in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.99 and senior Courtney Jefferson was 46th with a time of 2:20.49. Freshman Dominique Crable placed 37th in the 100-yard breaststroke while senior Aarin Miles placed 39th at 1:23.03.

The Aggies had three athletes swim in the 100-yard butterfly. Sophomore Niya Ross led the Aggies with a 39th finish at 1:03.55, followed by senior Erika Eiseman at 1:04.63 placing 43rd and freshman Aarica Carrington placing 45th at 1:08.76.

Jacobs led the Aggies in the 100-yard backstroke with a finishing time of 1:04.8 placing 46th. Ross finished 48th at a time of 1:08.62. Carrington placed 49th at 1:08.65 and senior Christian Hill placed 51st at 1:09.38. In the 400-yard medley relay, A&T placed 16th with a finishing time of 4:16.39.

“Ladies are swimming very well considering how the snow impacted our practice schedule,” said A&T head coach Shawn Hendrix.  

On the final day of the CCSA Championships, sophomore Kenya Dunn had a great performance in the women’s 100-yard freestyle as she placed 37th with a personal-best time of 54.86. Jacobs (56.65), Carrington (58.21) and Jefferson (1:01.s34) also joined Dunn in this event. Junior Danielle Jackson performed well in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke with a 29th finish at 2:35.63. Senior Christian Hill placed 37th in the women’s 200-yard backstroke at 2:25.79.

Lastly the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay placed 17th with a time of 3:49.35.

The Aggies finished up the championship with a total of 32 points placing 13th as they end their season.
