Swimmers Post Season Best At CCSA Championships
ATHENS, Ga.-The North Carolina A&T swimming team turned in a highly successful performance at the Coastal Conference Swimming Association Championships from Feb. 16-18 at the At the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The Aggies finished the meet in 12th place with 56 points, but nearly every swimmer turned in a season-best performance in at least one event.
The Aggies swimming team has 32 points after Day 1 of the CCSA Championships on Thursday, placing them 10th amongst 12 teams. They had 44 points after competition in Day 2. Florida Gulf Coast University took first place with 840 points.
The Aggies placed 10th in the 200 yard freestyle relay and ninth in the 400-yard medley relay. The "A" relay team comprised of junior Lauren Bowling, sophomore Erika Eiseman, sophomore Christian Hill and sophomore LaBraya Milton swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:48.24 to collect 14 points. The Aggies collected 18 points in the 400-yard medley relay, in which Hill, sophomore Aarin Miles, Bowling and Eiseman swam in 4:31.49.
Akaela McGinty, LaBraya Milton, Carolyn Pratt and Courtney Wilkins set a new season-best in the 50-yard freestyle preliminary race on Thursday as well. McGinty finished at 28.89, Milton touched the wall at 29.60, and Pratt at 29.76. Wilkins clocked in at 30.86.
Bowling had the best finish for the Aggies in the 200-yard IM preliminaries on Thursday, clocking in a 2:26.16 for 41st place. That was followed by Eiseman who completed the 200 Yard IM in 2:29.49.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Aggies "A" relay team of Hill, Miles, Bowling and Pratt came in 11th place with a 2:06.74 finish.
Bowling completed the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.28 for 30th place in the preliminary race-it was the fastest she has swam that event this season. Hill placed 43rd in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best 2:07.36 time. Sara Simmons finished that same event in a season-best 2:58.81.
Each of the five Aggies who swam in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries set a new season-best time. Miles had the best finish for the Aggies in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:22.07. Milton finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:32.07, while Pratt finished at 1:32.95, and McGinty in 1:33.72.
In the 100 yard backstroke preliminary race, Hill had the best time for A&T. Hill touched the wall at 1:10.58, and Eiseman finished right behind her at 1:11.04, which marked a season-best. Wilkins and Simmons were not far behind, completing the race in 1:21.71 and 1:34.51 respectively. Wilkins set a new-season low time in the 100 yard backstroke on Friday.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Hill finished in 32nd place with a 2:24.98 time, which marked a new season-best time.
In the 100-yard freestyle each Aggie swimmer earned the best times of the season. Eiseman had the best time for the Aggies. She finished the event in a season-best 57.55. McGinty clocked in a 1:03.02, Wilkins in 1:09.15, Milton in 1:09.80, Pratt in 1:12.54 and Simmons in 1:18.14.
Miles was the only A&T swimmer to compete in the 200 yard breaststroke, and she finished the event in a season-best 3:06.03, shaving nearly 16 seconds off her time from the last time she swam the event at the CCSA Duals on Jan. 28. In the 200-yard butterfly, Bowling finished in 2:19.03.
The Aggies' "A" relay team, comprised of Eiseman, Bowling, Hill and Miles, came in 11th place in the 400- yard freestyle relay, collecting 12 points, with a 4:00.58 time.
