Aggies Complete Day One Of Swimming Championships

ATHENS, Ga.-The North Carolina A&T swimming team capped off Day 1 of the CCSA Championships at the Gabrielson Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia with a number of career-bests in the four events they competed in.

"We swam very well this morning," said A&T head coach Shawn Hendrix, noting that a number of new career-best times were set in the morning portion of the competition.

In the 200-yard IM preliminary race on Thursday morning, junior Erika Eisenman had the fastest time on the team with a career-best 2:29.05 time.  Freshman Victoria Orr clocked in at 2:40.34 and junior Aarin Miles touched the wall at a career-best 2:53.29.

Freshman Kenya Dunn posted a 25.55 finish in the 50 free preliminary for 39th place, in her second fastest time in that event of the year.  Eisenman finished the race in 27.25, while junior Courtney Jefferson finished it in a career-best 27.74.  Junior LaBraya Milton completed the race in a career-best 29.06, and junior Sarah Simmons clocked in at 34.91.

The Aggies 'B' team, comprised of juniors Milton, Miles, Simmons and Eisenman, finished with an exhibition time of 2:01.83 in the 200-free relay  to start the day on Thursday.   In the 200-free relay on Thursday evening, the 'A' team comprised of freshmen Kenya Dunn, Niya Ross, Miranda Jacobs and senior Lauren Bowling was disqualified.

"That's a first for us," said Hendrix of the disqualification. "We are having a lot of freshmen jitters."

In the 400-medley relay on Thursday evening, the A&T 'A' team of Jacobs, junior Christian Hill, Bowling and Eisenman finished 12th with a 4:17.29 time for 10 points.  

The Aggies will start Day 2 of the championship meet on Friday at 10 a.m.  The Aggies will compete in the 200-medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and the 800 free relay on Friday. 

On Friday, senior Lauren Bowling will look to break the school record that she owns in the 100 fly, which is 1:00.28.
