GREENSBORO – Ten North Carolina A&T swimmers came together on Wednesday night and figured out a way to beat a Virginia Military Institute team with more depth, 109-93 at Corbett Sports Center.

The Aggies (1-2) swam without senior Dominque Crable. In addition, VMI arrived with 22 swimmers to face N.C. A&T. Instead of fretting, N.C. A&T head coach Shawn Hendrix placed her swimmers in unfamiliar events for them and instructed the team to do what they do best – swim.

“The meet was really awesome,” said Hendrix. “We really worked hard and the practices the ladies have been putting in have really paid off.”

Seniors Victoria Orr, Aarica Carrington and sophomore Ariel Wallace led the Aggies. Orr and Jade Hill’s first-place/second-place finishes clinched the win for the Aggies. Orr swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.40 while Hill completed her race a little more than two seconds later in 1:16.51. Orr also had first-place finishes in 200-yard medley relay and the 100-yard IM.

Seniors Miranda Jacobs, Carrington and sophomores Emani Davies and Wallace won the other relay on the day as they took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.74. Wallace was also strong in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She was dominant in the 50 free as she finished in 25.13, almost a second ahead of VMI’s Natalie Rivas. Wallace was more than three seconds better (1:00.10) than VMI’s Gabbie Galvez.

Carrington picked up a big win for the Aggies in the 200-yard freestyle as she outswam Madison Curran. Carrington finished in 2:08.22 to best Curran’s 2:08.88.

“VMI is a great team that’s always competitive to the end,” said Hendrix. “We didn’t have that many swimmers tonight, so we showed a lot of Aggie Pride.”
