DES MOINES, Iowa - North Carolina A&T was not able to advance to the finals at the 2012 NCAA Division I Track and Field National Championships at Drake University Wednesday. Jarrell Elliott ran a 46.36 in the first heat of the men's 400 meters to finish seventh.

Meanwhile, injury deterred the effort for the men's 4x100 meter relay team on Wednesday. The anchor leg of the team, Torrance Womack, pulled a quadriceps muscle during the competition. As a result, the Aggies had an uncharacteristically poor performance as they ran a season-worst 47.80.

It proved to be a tough two weeks for Womack, who suffered from food poison during his attempt to qualify for nationals in the men's 200 meters at the 2012 NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round. Despite the disappointment, the 4x100 team of Womack, Elliott, Darryl Williams and Earl House made tremendous strides throughout the season.

They dropped more than a second off of their time throughout the season. At the Penn Relays in late April, the foursome ran a 41.38. A month later at the NCAA regional, their time was down to 40.02. Three of the four members of the team return next season with the exception of Elliott.

Elliott is not finished yet, however. He met the "B" standard time in the 400 meters in order to enter the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials on June 20.
