GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T track and field teams will be competing at their first home meet of this season this Saturday in the Aggie Invitational at Irwin Belk Track. The field events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and the running events start three hours later.
The Aggies are looking forward to continue their success while performing in front of a supportive crowd. With 42 teams and more than 800 athletes competing this weekend, the meet will be larger than last year’s.
“We’re excited,” said Duane Ross, director of track and field programs. “I think a lot of excitement comes from not only seeing the program progress, get better the last couple of years but also seeing the level of competition and quality of competition that we have here get better as well.
The Aggie Invitational is one of three collegiate meets that will be hosted at Irwin Belk Track this season. The Aggies will have the Outdoor MEAC Track and Field Championships and an Aggie Last Chance Meet.
“Our kids love running at home, so we are coming off of a lot of personal-best,” said Ross. “I think this meet came right on time to keep that momentum going. It’s going to be warm weather, and I think this meet is crucial to our progress forward as we get ready for conference and nationals.
This proves that there has to be method to your madness. We spoke about this earlier in the year when we talked about planning our schedule and where to put this meet, and I think we put this meet on the right weekend for our team.”
